Project Description

KRM Associates Inc. (KRM), working with The Informatics Applications Group (tiag), have been selected by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to assist in the implementation of an open-source community based upon VistA, the VA’s electronic health record (EHR) platform. As an active participant in the VistA community for years, KRM brings its expertise in VistA architecture and technology, and experience in federal and state open-source projects to the initiative.

This project will establish a Custodial Agent (CA) for the VA’s EHR, which will engage participants across the existing community and enable collaborative improvement and information sharing to foster and expedite ongoing innovation for the solution. This open-source approach to innovation will draw upon the public and private sectors to work together in order to result in the best possible technology available for the medical community.

KRM’s experience in developing M/MUMPs for VistA and RPMS, working with federal initiatives and standards including NHIN CONNECT, HL7, and HITSP specifications, as well as experience in private community engagement and the clinical utilization of open-source health information technology will serve to support the development and continuation of this project. Additionally, KRM has been working with the VA on a number of contracts and projects for over 17 years.
