Our Solution
KRM Associates Inc is currently piloting our internally developed Personal Health Record/Personal Health Record Bank for West Virginia’s DHHR/Medicaid. This solution, titled HealtheMountaineer, includes design and principles learned from the successful Department of Veteran’s Affairs “My HealtheVet” program.
HealtheMe is the next generation of this deployment. Our solution, written in Java and deployed on a MySQL database (though capable of being adopted to overlay nearly any database system), is built upon open-source technologies. Currently, our solution incorporates compatibility with Indian Health Services’s RPMS system, and is capable of incorporating any other CHHIT compliant EMR.
Through working closely with the clinical staff currently leveraging our Personal Health Record solution, as well as former HealtheVet initiative professionals, and academia, we are developing an affordable and efficient open-source solution which is broadly deployable.
Through a partnership with Shepherd University, we are also working to assist in the development and placement of healthcare information professionals, and train clinical staff in emerging EHR and related technologies. Through this initiative, KRM is helping build a well trained staff of healthcare technology professionals capable of supporting the installation and support of not just our solution, but a variety of EHR and medical software solutions.
Secure
This solution is designed to be implemented on private, secured servers. This means data will not be shared with any unwarranted third parties, like commercial entities or employers. Using item-level delegation, patients manage access to their medical information. They are able to authorize doctors, family members, and other third parties to review what they have entered into their profile. KRM has extensive experience developing secure, hardened technology for organizations such as the Department of Defense. This solution will continue to be secure, and maintain its HIPAA compliance.
Interoperable
Currently using Continuity of Care (CCR) standards, and capable of accepting any CCHIT compliant EMR, this solution can interface with practically any EMR solution. To bring information from disparate systems together, document formats must be converted into an exchangable, universal standard. Through our Open-Source approach, adapters for each system can be shared and modified, meaning as utilization grows, so will exchange, and ultimately the benefits to the consumer.
HIE Integration
Using open-source document standards, and NHIN CONNECT technology, the solution has proven it can participate with a health information exchange. Currently, statewide exchanges are in the process of being awarded and developed, and will eventually allow providers to exchange health information among entities across the country. Patients are entitled to access and review their medical information through HIPAA, and with their participation, the potential improvements in information quality, quality of care, and cost savings are tremendous.
Customizable
Though soon to be publicly available, KRM Associates will maintain and manage the core components of the solution architechture to ensure security and reliability. However, the utilization of this technology is widely adaptable. KRM is currently working to modify the solution to integrate a great deal of information beyond typical medical records, such as immunization data, or insurance claims. Additionally, this solution can be adapted to function as an "EMR Lite", to allow record management and entry in typically non-medical environments, such as school settings.
This solution is also uniquely brandable. For instance, if implemented at a university or hospital, the portal can display their information or logo. Data ownership and safety have been major barriers to PHR adoption; this approach is one that will alleviate this concern.
KRM has deployed, is developing, and is planning production of the following the features:
Manage Access to your record.
You control access to your medical data. We have implemented item level data controls, so each detail on your PHR can be shared with exactly who you want.
Contribute to your record.
Patients may enter their own user information, and load data from devices such as glucose monitors. This information can be shared with providers, and used to improve the quality of care given.
Review your laboratory results online.
Save the time and money of an additional provider visit, and if you have any questions, you can securely message your doctor through our system.
Communicate with your doctor.
By integrating with provider based patient management systems, patients can check for openings, and set up visits online. Patients can even chat with doctors over the internet if they have questions about their health, or would like an opinion they don’t really need a full visit for, saving them time and money.
Your Health Dashboard
Quickly and efficiently check for results and messages, updates, changes to records, and keep an eye on important health indicators.
Get Educated.
Access more information about your health record, such as common treatments and new studies about a condition you may have been diagnosed with.
Get Mobile.
Securely access your Personal Health Record from our mobile application. Check in on your health while waiting in line at the bank, or have information immediately available to first responders in the event of an emergency.
Use your toolkit.
There are many other features, such as printable medical information cards and access to care plans. Since this is an open source initiative, many more features can be added as the product grows, such as specialist specific tools to better manage your care.
Our PHR takes a different approach to healthcare.
Its all about ownership.
By hosting EMR and PHR data within our secure personal health record bank, our organization works with your staff to tie into your existing IT infrastructure, creating new, innovative ways of information sharing and communication; integrating functions such as billing, scheduling, and prescription management. You wind up with a unique solution that meets your organization’s needs.
You are in control.
We are working with providers and physicians to build this. This means we have tailored how you interact with the system to keep you in control of the medical data you see and release. Records are clearly indicated when they have been entered by patients or if a medical record is presented incompletely. You have an option to review and comment on lab results before they go to the patient. The system is designed with your concerns in mind.
More than just Meaningful Use.
We aren’t just a bolt-on application that gets you on your way to meeting meaningful use criteria. We understand that to satisfy meaningful use, existing and new infrastructure must work in concert with each other to satisfy all criteria. We work with your organization to make sure you get across the meaningful use finish line.
We are open-source.
We simply manage the code-base and hosting to ensure the security and integrity of your solution. Features and extensions developed with your organization, and with other entities can be utilized universally, meaning you will see new benefits and features develop in your system dynamically as deployments grow.
We want everyone on board.
What is the point of meeting meaninful use in principle, but not in practice? We know your staff needs to understand, use, and promote the system, before your patients and physicians will ever realize its full potential. We are currently pairing with academia and providers to develop and implement training and patient education programs to make sure the full benefits, both medically and economically, are realized.
Improve your efficiency and reduce your cost.
The benefits of not just patient access, but patient coordination are clear. Reduce redundant lab tests, decrease the number of unneccessary doctors visits, lower administrative costs, and much more.
