KRM Associates Inc. is currently working to promote the deployment and adoption of Electronic Medical Records throughout the state of West Virginia. KRM is primarily involved in establishing a trained technical force with the capacity to enhance, implement, train and support Electronic Medical Records, as well as other related forms of healthcare technology.

RPMS Implementation & Support

KRM has deployed and is supporting an Electronic Medical Record solution to the Shepherd University Health Clinic.  Originally developed by Indian Health Services (IHS), Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) is an open-source derivative of VistA (Veterans Health Information System and Technology Architecture) originally developed for ambulatory health care entities. KRM has also integrated an open-source practice management system for patient registration, and plans on delivering both billing and scheduling systems.Through an open-source approach to the development of EMR technology based upon VistA , KRM has a deployed solution which has the potential to be implemented at nearly any location within the United States.

VistA EMR Training & Support

Through working closely with the Shepherd University Nursing program, KRM is helping establish a medical informatics curriculum neccessary to to train and support the operation of the VistA EMR system. As the VistA system is deployed to a growing number of clinics, doctor's offices, and specialists, the established talent base has the technical skills neccessary to support this effort.  Additionally, professionals trained in Open-source derivatives of the Department of Veteran's Affairs systems are well equipped to work directly for the VA following the completion of their coursework.

With the prevealance of both the VA and Open-Source EMRs throughout the state, KRM is assiting Shepherd in building and delivering qualified, local professionals to promote and ease the adoption of EMR technology throughout West Virginia.

The VistA technology utilized by KRM was developed by the Department of Veteran's Affairs for hospitals and in-patient care. VistA is a trusted, proven healthcare information system for both in-patient and out-patient services used to support the clinical, financial, and administrative needs of the VA's network of 1,300 healthcare facilities, including 160 medical centers. KRM has implemented a baseline VistA EMR to support further application development of the open-source VistA module.
